I purchased this reel for an 11'4" 3wt trout spey and used it last week on the north fork of the Clearwater and Kelly creek. It was a great match for this rod and I had a blast catching west slope cuts in the 14 to 17 inch range. Reel worked perfectly.

The speedster S 5 is a beautiful reel but the spool constantly pops off when reeling in your line. I have not been able to correct this issue,

You don’t have to touch the fish to remove the fish to remove the hook. Uh easier on everyone.

Went in to my local fly shop said I needed a new reel. Owner showed me the new Lamson So after feeling the weight put ok my Sage XP turned into a new rod so recommend

I have a Guru S 9+ reel used for saltwater fishing snook, jacks small Albies and Spanish mackerel.
The reel is bulletproof.
Great drag, low start up inertia and plenty of backing capacity.
The drag has plenty of stopping power.
The ergonomics are good and the reel performs the way you'd expect from Lamson.
I own Lamson reels from a 1.5 Vexsis, to a 9+ Guru S up to a Light speed 11+. They are all great reels.

I opted for the full cage version. I fish primarily the Kenai and Russian rivers in Alaska for Red and Silver salmon. This is the reel you want. The full cage keeps the line where you need it and prevents it from getting stuck between the spool while flip fishing. The drag is amazing there is zero inertia when you first hook a fish, no hard pull for the fish to pop off the hook. It's smooth the entire time and light weight. Drop it in the water? I got this rod a few days ago and paired it with the speedster. Since then I have wanted to cast nothing else. I don’t even care if I catch any fish cuz every single cast on this Combo is like getting that perfect high-five! But it handles big fish like a dream too! Perfect rod at a great price
