Light-year.The distance traveled by light in a single year; the time it takes for design to evolve to a next step. What can be said about larger but lighter, lighter but stronger? Of course it can be done. We’ve done it over and over again, but does there come a time when the bar can’t be raised? No, there are always improvements to be made, new ways of thinking, new materials, and processes to exploit. As we’ve said – the performance benchmark for a fly reel is retrieve rate per ounce. If you haven’t thought about it before, think about it now: there’s no downside to high retrieve rate other than extra weight. As an example, consider the 2021 Gen 6 Litespeed: CNC machined with material distributed artfully along critical load paths, stable and strong, so light you might forget it’s there, but beautiful enough to make you remember it is. The art of the fly reel derives from the science of the fly reel, but at the end of the day both art and science, when held in balance, serve to make us smile.
LSF – The LSF is the freshwater version of the new Litespeed. The chassis is based on the conical system found in our other reels with the addition of a click stop drag knob and a unique spring set that creates a linear progression of torque with very fine resolution at the light end of its range. LSF spool and frame architecture is super-arbor in scale for high retrieve, but spare and open to promote line drying and, of course, reduce weight.

Cutthroat at LiteSpeed
I upgraded from a competitor's reel to the Litespeed to compliment my 6wt dry fly set up. I love the "weightless" large arbor format. The fast, smooth line retrieval is fantastic. This is my first Waterworks-Lamson reel but it will definitely not be my last. Actually already purchased a Remix for my son's 5 wt. The conversion is happening.

Exceptional in every way
This reel is exceptional in every way... Particularly the cost, which is totally out of line. I own 6 older Litespeed reels and I love them! It breaks my heart the iconic Litespeed was redesigned. The older Litespeeds are in my opinion every bit as good and arguably better than this one is in every way, including visual appeal. If you can find them, older Litespeed reels (which are arguably better in every way) are over a $100 less than this new one is. However, this new Litespeed is lighter than the older Litespeed reels and Lamson claims they're "stronger", though I haven't put them to the test, the new Litespeed certainly doesn't feel as solid as the old ones do. I really like the whiskey color though... It is beautiful and it compliments the wood reel seat on my fly rod nicely. The whiskey color reel will also probably be a collectors item as well which is the only reason I dropped $500+ for this overpriced line holder.

Beauty
This reel belongs on the water. It makes you want to use it. Great looks and perfect function.
Fish saver. Our breakout product in the fly fishing industry, years ago, we thought: “There’s got to be a better way to remove a delicately-tied fly from a hooked fish than the hoisting, clamping, and wrenching process now on display.” So we created a simply innovative tool capable of reducing fish mortality by eliminating netting and handling—then named it after our home-base of Ketchum, Idaho. This technique will preserve protective coatings and eliminate air exposure. The Ketchum Release® tool makes low-mortality release easy, plus allows you to retrieve your fly without damage. It even keeps your hands high and dry. The Ketchum Release® is available in three sizes: Big Bug for hook sizes 6-10; Standard for sizes 12-16; and Midge for sizes 18-22.
