20# backing for 9w line on the 8 model

The 10 holds more than enough backing than I need and I like the size of the 8. Can I get at least 150yds of 20# on the 8 with a 9 weight typical line?

That shouldnt be a problem at all. The 8 holds 250yrds with a WF8 line so a WF9 should still have plenty of room with 150yrds of 20#. You could switch to gelspun too and really load up if you wanted extra backing. Hope that helps!

Stopping power

Can anyone tell me the drag strengths of the Lamson reel, from 8 to 10 weight reels?

Best saltwater reel out there for the money!

I have been pleased with the Lamson liquids reels for a while, and have never seen a need to upgrade. When I saw they offered the liquid in a saltwater version, I had to have it! This liquid max is undoubtedly the best value out there for a saltwater fly reel. The reel is pleasant to cast and not heavy at all. The line pick up is more than adequate The drag is smooth and bullet proof ! It has handled bluefish, speckled trout and redfish with ease. I wouldn’t think twice about using this real for any salt saltwater application. Lamson knocked it out of the park with this offering. Thanks Lamson!

Everything you love about the liquid with a beefed up drag and salt water arbor designs, its a no brainer! Thanks a ton for letting us know how the reel is working out for you.

Under capacity

This is a quality real with a bomber drag system, but it doesn’t hold as much backing as advertised. The 10 with a saltwater shooting line held just under 200yds of 30# backing.

Appreciate you letting us know! If you don’t mind send us an email to customersupport@lamsonflyfishing.com with the line make/model and backing that you put on there so we can check it out.
