I am a fishing guide in Alaska and I am able to fish rods from all the maunfactures in some of the harshest conditions and on some of the baddest fish in North America. The Velocity is one of the best casting and more importantly one of the best mending rods I have fished! I also used this stick to chase monster Golden Dorado in Bolivia. The ease in turning over big heavy flies with a 40lb wire leader was incredible! The bang for the buck on this stick is incredible!
That's high praise, thanks putting our stuff to work and using it with your clients!
I've been fly fishing 100% of the time for nearly 20 years and have tried many many different rods and setups on the water. Gotta say I love my Lamson 5wt and 7wt rods! Used them in Montana, Wyoming, recently, and on my home waters of the Upper Delaware. When matched with a Lamson reel, they cast effortlessly. My clients, especially those new to fly fishing love the way the road loads. They can feel it, and if you can feel it you can cast it. You've loved Lamson for their reels but you'll also love them for their rods too!"
Well, if you're going to test out a rod and want to see what it really can do...why not jump into the deep end
Golden dorado will give you everything you need to do know when you want to see what a new stick in your hands can deliver. Over the course of 6 days of fishing in Argentina for their national fish, the Velocity series from Lamson shined. For hours on end we were throwing big, gigantic streamer and topwater patterns on the 8wt model and made my arm feel like I had been casting a 5wt. The rod is fast, and throws line when asked. Additionally you're able to control the fish as best as possible and land them quickly
We changed river systems and then spent a great deal of time casting the 10wt model with everything from floating to full sinking lines, throwing anything including giant mice to fruit to muskie sized streamers. That style of fishing can ultimately be taxing, but the Velocity Series is far better than most, more expensive models that I have tried in the past. The highlight of my whole trip was watching my boat mate launch a cast into the Parana River then a giant take and explosion of water as my buddy fought and landed a 30 lb golden dorado that the guides dubbed "big momma" on the 10wt.
Nice! If you're going to do it... might as well do it right. Glad to hear the Velocity fit the bill and helped tame some special fish.
Hello fellow fly fisherman!! I’ve never done a rod review, but this rod a Lamson 9’ 4wt deserves a review after what I put it through yesterday 11/1/2022 on the Owyhee River! I caught 15 unbelievable size browns ranging from 15-24” on this rod and the fights were epic. The reason I’m writing the review is because 2 of these fish, one being my personal best 24” was in between two patches of willow brush and in a very tight space. This brown hit hard and took me through and under willow roots. My rod was tested with scraping the willow branches, under water periods of time and then he took me down stream. I gotta say I thought this rod was going to go at one point. Not a chance, the Lamson rod stood up to the test and delivered a fish of a lifetime for me and not even a scratch. I can’t say enough about these rods!! I’m looking forward to putting my 9’ 7wt to the test this fall and winter!! I’m from Meridian, ID and love the fact that Lamson is right here in Boise!! Thank you Lamson for a great purchase and an incredible rod at a great price!! Hope to see you on the water!!
The Velocity rod delivers, no question about it! Local support means a ton to us and we are really happy to hear the rod was taken to the limit and helped you land the fish. The 7wt will do the same. Thanks a ton for choosing our gear.
I’d never heard of Lamson before, but my local fly shop (ran by a fishing wizard) put me onto this 9’ 5 weight rod. He sells $100 rods and $2000 rods, and everything in between. I tried multiple rods but I honestly knew too little to even know what to look for, what to think about, what I should feel when handling these things, and so on. When looking at all these ro options, I asked fishing wizard what he was excited about; his eyes lit up. “Let me show you something”, he said. He spooled up a velocity for me and we took it to the casting pond. “They should be charging twice as much as they are for this thing” said fishing wizard about the Lamson. I took a gamble on the unknown and that rod ended up in my truck.
What a joy this rod has been! I caught a personal record number of trout just two days ago. Fishing wizard strung up 6 weight line on my #5 rod, because this velocity has the backbone to send it. This friggin thing will shoot line! I’ve so enjoyed fishing this thing, and I really like the details that make this rod pop. I have no regrets spending a little more than I intended to for my velocity. I already look forward to the next time this rod bends in my hand from the weight of a trout trying to make a getaway. I’m thankful for what the Lamson team has created so that I can enjoy creation through fishing for bows. If you’re on the fence about this rod, the velocity has my hearty recommendation.
